Skills & Pathways

NOCN qualifications are designed to build real, practical skills that progress naturally from foundation levels to advanced workplace capability. This page outlines the recommended learning pathways across construction, employability, functional skills, and leadership development. These routes help learners move from entry-level skills to industry-recognised competence.

Construction Skills Pathway

Recommended Progression Route

  • Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills (foundation workplace skills)
  • Health & Safety in a Construction Environment (CSCS eligibility)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Construction Operations (skilled employment pathway)

A typical learner route begins with fundamental workplace safety and basic trade skills, progressing toward Level 2 competence required on construction sites.

Employability & Workplace Skills Pathway

  • Level 1 Award in Employability Skills
  • Level 2 Employability & Progression
  • Level 2 Team Leading (optional leadership route)

This pathway prepares learners for job readiness, interviews, workplace behaviour, and progression into supervisory roles.

Functional Skills Pathway

  • Functional Skills English (Entry → Level 1 → Level 2)
  • Functional Skills Maths (Entry → Level 1 → Level 2)

Functional Skills support achievement across all vocational areas and are often required by employers and apprenticeships.

Leadership & Management Pathway

  • Level 2 Team Leading
  • Level 3 Leadership & Management

This route helps learners progress from operational roles into supervisory and management responsibilities.

Choosing the Right Pathway

Each learner’s starting point is different. Our centre provides guidance and assessment to help identify the most suitable entry level and progression route. Pathways can be customised for jobseekers, apprentices, upskilling staff, and employers seeking accredited training.
